Our main goal is to help others, whether it's a downed rider or a family of a downed rider. We held our first ride and walk on September 3, 2016 to raise money for DuKane ABATE's downed rider fund. This ride was not big but we included non riders on a walk after. Raffle donations were made by The Chicago Blackhawks, The Sablich Family, Home Depot, Macys, Yankee Candle, Lids, Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Sears, Tilted Kilt, Cinemark Movies, Family Video, Sonic Car Wash and Alison McNamara with thiry-one. A very special thanks to Tim's G-ram, Laurel Gehrke, for clearing out her gift stash. A $1250 donation was made in Tim's name.
The 2nd Annual ride allowed us to donate just over $3000 to DuKane Abate's Downed Riders Fund in Tim's name.
The 3rd Annual ride was cancelled to honor Great-Grandma Shirley's final weeks with us. With the uncertainty of the pandemic, our ride has been cancelled for 2020.
In 2021, we picked up our ride and held the after party at Cherry Red Roasters in Dwight.
In 2022, our ride started and ended at Gusto's in Cresthill. This year we decided to go a different route with our donation. We were able to donate directly to a woman who was a passenger on her husband's bike. She has been through so much and has come out of it with a renewed sense of purpose.
This years ride will also start and end at Gusto's with the help of the owners, Brian and Joy.
Another goal is to help educate young drivers. How to really see the world around them.
HOW WE HELP:
Six weeks after Tim died, we accompanied Will County ABATE to the Drivers Ed classes at Minooka High School. Our goal was to help express how important it is to pay attention to their surroundings. To SEE the drivers and riders around them. We spoke of Tim and his life. We told the kids how much he impacted our lives. We asked them to look again. We expressed our hope that they would never be on either end of such a tragedy. We have been back three times each year since his death. As long as they will have us, we will help with motorcycle awareness.
